Welcome to Wharton cottage a traditional mid 19th century whitewashed cottage in the medieval village of Cartmel.

Wharton cottage successfully combines contemporary and traditional style and comforts.  It is four star rated by VisitBritain.we also offer free leisure club membership for guests at Netherwood Hotel in nearby grange with access to sky and broadband.

The cottage which sleeps up to 7 is situated in a quiet yet central location in Cartmel,100 yards from the sticky toffee pudding shop and all that Cartmel has to offer.

Cartmel is a historic village set in the beautiful countryside and is within easy traveling distance of Kendal Windermere, Coniston and Ulverston.

Cartmel is home to Cartmel races held in May, July and August, the sticky toffee pudding shop (also an excellent delicatessen selling a wide selection of wine) and a medieval priory which hosts musical and choral events throughout the year.

As well as a feast for the eyes in its architecture and countryside Cartmel is also full of opportunities for a real feast.  There are 4 family friendly pubs some with large play areas for children within 500 yards all serving food (you may need to book – see our links page) and a Michelin starred restaurant, L’enclume.  Simon Rogan the world renowned chef from L'enclume has just opened a new bistro/wine bar in the centre of the village.  There are also (at last count) at least 3 cafes!  Most of the food served within Cartmel will be locally sourced from in particular Howbarrow organic farm and Cartmel Valley Game farm.  You won’t go hungry in Cartmel

There are also many walks from the door we keep all the details in the cottage.  Many of the walks provide magnificent views of Morecambe bay and a particular favourite is Humphrey Head walk on the edge of the bay.  Cartmel is also idea for cycling the village itself is flat and the hills are gently undulating.

There is also a children’s playground ,several gift shops, antique shops and a newly open  gallery selling an eclectic mix of art, sculpture, ceramics, and jewellery.  There is a regular antiques and crafts fair at the village hall and the racecourse holds various horse and dog shows.

Holker hall, home of the Cavendishes, Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall are all nearby.  Cartmel is also ideal for visiting Beatrix potter sites.

If you have time to venture out of Cartmel we recommend Kendal for the Brewery arts centre showing, films, drama and live music and the abbot hall gallery, in Grange the duck pond has a remarkable collection of exotic ducks – always a favourite with children and various music venues and the Haverthwaite steam railway to take you back in time.  Don’t forget Ulverston which also has a live music venue – Coronation hall and the Laurel and Hardy museum.  Ulverston also has a remarkable selection of independent shops and the Buddhist Peace cafĂ© .Look at our surrounding environment page for details and further suggestions.
